Celebrate CGT's 15th Anniversary!

It's time again to celebrate the volunteers, businesses and groups that conserve our natural resources and provide access to the outdoor recreation in our region.

The Annual Greenways Awards, presented by the Council on Greenways and Trails (CGT) serving Venango, Clarion, and Crawford Counties in northwestern Pennsylvania were presented May 31, 2023.  The event also celebrated the 15th anniversary of CGT then visitors toured the historic Saltbox recently updated by the Allegheny Valley Trails Association in cooperation with property owner Cranberry Township.

Volunteer of the Year

James E. Holden

Greenways Volunteer of the Year: Individual, group, company, or organization which provided significant uncompensated hours and expertise to assist the Council on Greenways & Trails and/or its member organization(s) during the prior five years.

David Galbreath, President of the Clarion Chapter of the North Country Trail

He helps organize monthly chapter hikes on the North Country Trail, coordinates work sessions for numerous volunteers performing trail maintenance and was instrumental in developing the Clarion Loop Trail,


Partner of the Year

Thomas J. Allen

Greenways Partner of the Year:

Individual, company, or organization which donated support, resources, items, and/or expertise to assist the Council on Greenways & Trails and/or its member organization(s) during the prior five years.

Northwest Pennsylvania Mobility Alliance, Inc.

In operation since 2021, they were the first rural BikeShare program within the state.  Bicycles are positioned in Meadville and Goddard State Park and soon in Titusville, Franklin, and Oil City.  Bikes are unlocked through an internet app and can be returned to any of the station locations.


Neighbor of the Year

Richard M. Garrard

Greenways Neighbor of the Year:

Person, group, business, or entity next to one or more segments of the greenways and trails in Clarion, Crawford, and Venango Counties. This award recognizes event-specific or ongoing positive involvement and assistance by adjacent property owners during the prior five years.

Craig Farrar, Borough Council President, Hydetown Borough in Crawford County

This  municipality recently opened  two miles of the East Branch Trail through Crawford County Forest and entering the north edge of Hydetown, making this the newest portion of the Erie to Pittsburgh Trail.

Titusville Community Development Agencies is sponsoring the overall program and ceremony for 2023, which also celebrates the 15th anniversary of the Council on Greenways and Trails.

The Council on Greenways & Trails is a partnership of non-profit organizations and municipalities working across three county lines.  Throughout Venango, Clarion and parts of Crawford Counties members are working together to create and enhance a regional identity through trails and greenways that connect us to this unique place.  Enter the full CGT website.
